WORKSHOP 1

Reader Engagement – Creating Life-long Fans
Open Big to Hook Them: Hollywood Ending To Sell More
Readers are our bread and butter as authors. If no one wants to buy our books, we don’t earn a living. So how do we connect with those readers? How do we encourage them to come back for more? And more importantly, how do we turn them into superfans? In this highly practical workshop, the SPA Girls talk about all the ways that you as the author can find your readers and then form the kind of lasting connections that turn them from casual readers into life-long fans. How to you grab the reader in the first 5 pages? The market is really crowded, why should they invest in your story? Ways to ensure you have the best opening you can. Then, why do you need that Hollywood Ending? To make the reader feel so much joy, love, bliss that they race off to buy the next book!

Great beginnings are what ensures the reader keeps reading your book (very important for KU where you get paid by page read only.) What are the most important elements of your opening scene and a checklist to ensure you have it in spades? Then how to ensure a big Hollywood ending and the power of epilogues. What do you need in the ending to ensure the next sale?

WORKSHOP 2

Social Media + Strategy for the Business Minded Author
Crafting Compelling Characters, Part 1
Social media is one of the best tools in our author tool kits, but it can also feel daunting when you’re not sure where to start or why you need a strategy in the first place. If you’re struggling to find your place on social media, need help getting engagement or want to understand the basic foundations of social media as it relates to your brand, this workshop is for you.

This presentation will not only go over the basics, like terminology, but will also cover social media strategy as a whole in relation to the business of being an author. Learn how to efficiently and effectively maximise the best platform for your author business and genre so you get the most out of your strategy. Geared toward the beginner/intermediate level, but all levels are welcome.

Do your characters leap off the page and burrow their way into your readers’ hearts? If they don’t, come along and learn how to craft characters your readers will love with award-winning author Lizzi Tremayne, who writes historical and contemporary suspense, women’s, YA, and veterinary fiction.
